Rarest Items in MM2
The rarest MM2 weapons and items, and why each is rare: one-owner trophies, Nik's Scythe, event-capped Ancients, MM1 Vintages and the story of Corrupt.
What makes an MM2 item rare?
Three things decide it: how many copies were ever made, whether the item's source is still open, and whether copies can move between players at all. The tier on an item's card is only a rough guide. Unique sits above Ancient and Ancient above Godly, but most of the scarcest things in the game are items nobody can trade for.
Scarcity isn't price either, and rarity vs price in MM2 covers that gap. The MM2 Wiki records owner counts for only a few items; where it does, they're quoted below.
Which MM2 items are the rarest?
The scarcest items in the wiki's records, and where each came from:
| Item | Why it's rare | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Slouse's Clown, knife and gun | One copy of each, owned by one player | A gift from Nikilis |
| Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies | One copy each, tied to the winner's account | Top three places on an event leaderboard |
| Nik's Scythe | Seven confirmed owners | A personal code from Nikilis |
| Event Ancients | Each sold during one event, then never again | Event gamepasses and pass final tiers |
| Chroma Traveler's Gun | Its box could only be opened during one event | The 2023 Halloween Box |
| Vintages | Not sold since 2014 | The original Murder Mystery's shop |
| Corrupt | About 50 at first; thousands since a 2017 dupe | Nikilis's apology for a 2014 bug |
What are MM2 leaderboard trophies?
Since the 2017 Christmas event, the top players on event leaderboards have been rewarded with trophies: Unique reskins of an existing weapon, from 2019 on usually one from the same event. First place gets the Gold version, second Silver, third Bronze, and the rest of the top 100 a Blue, Red or Purple one. Christmas events since 2019 have run two leaderboards, one for collecting tokens and one for giving gifts, so each of those Christmases has two sets.
Trophies can't be traded, and each shows its winner's username under the icon, so a Gold trophy is one copy tied to one account for good. The 2020 Christmas token leaderboard, for example, paid out Gold, Silver and Bronze versions of Icebreaker. The wiki's note on the earliest Gold, Gold Candy, is that its winner's account was terminated before the trophies were handed out, so it was never claimed and has never been seen in a game.
Of the Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies, 33 are guns: each of the 11 leaderboards that have paid out guns so far, from Christmas 2018 to Christmas 2025, gave one of each. Three of those guns now have no owner at all. The wiki lists Gold Minty, Silver Iceblaster and Bronze Iceblaster among the few weapons nobody holds, because the accounts that won them were terminated, Bronze Iceblaster's before the trophy was even handed out.
A few Uniques came from somewhere other than a leaderboard. Nikilis gave Slouse's Clown, a knife and a matching gun, to a single player, Slouse, whom the wiki names as the only owner of both; they look exactly like the Common Clown knife and gun, and only the orange Unique label sets them apart. SharkSeeker and Dartbringer were codes packed with Nerf blasters from Hasbro's Roblox range. Like every Unique except Corrupt, none of these can be traded.
What is Nik's Scythe?
The knife the wiki calls the rarest Ancient: a teal version of Batwing that Nikilis hands out personally, as an in-game code, to people who reported bugs to him and to people close to him. The wiki records seven confirmed owners. There is no other way to get one, and the wiki says Nikilis keeps watch over every copy.
Why are event Ancients rare?
No Ancient has ever come out of a box. Apart from Nik's Scythe and the Evo knives, each was sold during a single event, as a gamepass in 2018 and as the last tier of the event's pass from 2019 on, and once that event closed its supply stopped for good:
| Ancient | Source |
|---|---|
| Batwing | Halloween 2018 gamepass |
| Icewing | Christmas 2018 gamepass |
| Elderwood Scythe | Halloween 2019 pass |
| Logchopper | Christmas 2019 pass |
| Hallowscythe | Halloween 2020 pass |
| Icebreaker | Christmas 2020 pass |
| Harvester | Halloween 2021 pass |
| Swirly Axe | Christmas 2021 pass |
| Icepiercer | Christmas 2022 pass |
| Traveler's Axe | Halloween 2023 pass |
| Gingerscope | Christmas 2023 pass |
| Vampire's Axe | Halloween 2024 pass |
| Celestial | Christmas 2024 pass |
A closed source isn't the whole story. Glitches duplicated several of these after release: Batwing three times, Icewing twice, Elderwood Scythe and Harvester once each. The wiki also records Nikilis banning holders of big Harvester stacks afterwards. And the run has paused: the 2025 Christmas pass was, by the wiki's count, the third in a row to end in a Godly rather than an Ancient.
Evo knives are their own case. Reaver, Icecrusher, Gingerscythe and Synthwave turn Ancient only after 864,000 XP with the knife equipped, and they can never be traded. Most of the tradeable Ancients are on the Ancient page; the Halloween ones are also among our MM2 Halloween items.
What are Vintage items in MM2?
Vintages are the ten weapons sold in the shop of the original Murder Mystery (MM1), the game Nikilis released in January 2014 and replaced with MM2 on Christmas Day that year. Accounts that had bought them found them in their MM2 inventories, first under a tier called Classic, renamed Vintage in the Season 1 update.
The ten are five guns, America, Cowboy, Golden, Laser and Phaser, and five knives, Blood, Ghost, Prince, Shadow and Splitter. The game hasn't issued one since: the MM1 shop is gone, and trading is the only source. America was the only one sold for a limited time, three days from 4 to 6 July 2014. The wiki does note that the 2021 duping glitch reached some Vintages. All ten are on the Vintage page.
What happened to Corrupt?
Corrupt started as an apology. On 29 December 2014, four days after MM2 launched, a bug wiped the items of around 50 players, and Nikilis gave each of them a new knife along with a new tier: Corrupt, the first Unique.
For a while it was among the scarcest knives in the game. The wiki ranks it second only to Nik's Scythe at the time and puts its owners at around 63 between 2015 and 2017, a figure it marks as alleged. Then it became the main target of the 2017 duping glitch, and copies now number in the thousands. The wiki adds that an account holding more than 20 is banned when it rejoins.
It is still the only Unique that can change hands, so it is the one top-tier item you can trade for: an item that was rare, and then wasn't. It pairs with the Godly gun Luger as the Corrupt Set.
Which rare items can you trade for?
Of everything above, Corrupt, the event Ancients, Chroma Traveler's Gun and the Vintages are the ones that change hands, and each one's scarcity comes from its history rather than its tier: whether its source is still open, and how hard a glitch hit it. The same test works further down the ladder. A Chroma from a finished event can't be unboxed any more, while Chroma Luger still drops from Gun Box 1, so one supply is fixed and the other keeps growing as boxes are opened.
