MM2 Item Values, Explained

Why the same knife is worth three different numbers depending on who you ask, and how to tell a fair asking price from a hopeful one.

There is no official price list

Murder Mystery 2 has no in-game market and no published prices. Every number you have ever seen attached to an item (on a value list, in a trading server, on a site like this one) is somebody's estimate of what the item trades for.

The three numbers

Ask what an item is worth and you can get three different numbers:

NumberWhat it isKeep in mind
Community valueA value list's estimate, in units of its own rather than moneyVolunteer-maintained, and updated on a delay
Trade valueWhat the item gets you in a player-to-player swap todayMoves with events, with what is unobtainable and with what active traders want this month
Cash priceWhat a buyer will pay in real moneyThe only one you can spend, and it tracks community value loosely at best

The two main value lists are MM2Values and Supreme Values. MM2Values prices its whole list in Seers, the Godly knife anyone can craft from 20 legendary shards, and Supreme Values uses value units of its own. Either is useful as a compass, not as a price tag.

What actually moves a price

Supply is the big one. Chroma Luger still drops from Gun Box 1, so more copies enter the game every day; Elderwood Scythe stopped at tier 40 of the 2019 Halloween Event pass and no new one has existed since. That is why two items with the same rarity label can be an order of magnitude apart: one is still being minted and one is not.

Demand is the other half, and sets carry a lot of it. Icebreaker pairs with the Godly gun Iceblaster, and Icepiercer completes the Ice set, so each one is wanted by everybody who already holds the other two. A scarcer knife with no set and no following can sit unwanted beside one that has both.

Everything else is friction: how quickly you want the trade done, how much you trust the person on the other side, and whether the seller carries the risk of the trade failing or you do.

Reading an asking price

  • Compare like for like: the same variant, not just the same name.
  • Check more than one source, and prefer sources that show recent trades over ones that show opinions.
  • Treat a price far below every comparable listing as information about the seller, not about the item.
  • Paying a little over trade value to get an item now, from someone who carries the delivery risk, is a legitimate trade-off. What you are buying at that margin is time.

One rule that always holds

A value list can say an item is worth a fortune all day; if no one is buying at that number, that is not the price. Watch what changes hands.
